Our Approach to Hearing Aid Brands
At SNR Hearing, we are open to assessing and supporting hearing aids from any manufacturer, provided they allow us to deliver safe, effective and ethical care.
That said, we are particularly experienced in programming and long-term care of hearing aids from Phonak, and to a smaller extent Starkey.
This preference is clinically driven, not commercially driven.
Our decisions are based on:
- Reliability and consistency of performance
- Research & Development and innovation investments
- Availability of spare parts and accessories
- Strength of international warranty support
- Ability to provide timely repairs and aftercare locally
In our region, it is essential that hearing technology can be fully supported throughout its lifespan.
We do not recommend products that cannot be reliably serviced or supported over time.

Hearing Aid Designs

In-the-Canal Hearing Aids
These are custom-made hearing aids designed to sit partly or fully inside the ear canal.
They can be very discreet but often require:
- Good manual dexterity
- Careful daily handling
- Regular cleaning and maintenance
For this reason, they are recommended only when they are clinically and practically appropriate.

Over-the-Ear Hearing Aids (Including RIC Styles)
Over-the-ear hearing aids sit on or just behind the ear and include several design options.
One of the most popular styles is the Receiver-In-Canal (RIC) hearing aid.
RIC hearing aids are very discreet — using a slim wire and a small speaker that sits comfortably in the ear canal, while keeping the main electronics behind the ear.
They offer an excellent balance between:
- Cosmetics – barely visible for most people
- Ease of handling – easier to manage than very small in-the-ear devices
- Performance – suitable for a wide range of hearing losses
- Reliability – robust and adaptable over time
Because of this balance, RIC hearing aids are often an excellent choice for patients who want subtle appearance without compromising performance or ease of use.
Larger behind-the-ear styles are also available when greater power, durability or ease of handling is required.
